Competition winner, Rosie with YES Director, Deirdre Bounds
Sixteen year old Rosie Pendleton from Selby beat off some strong competition from young people across Yorkshire and Humber to win an Apple iPad2 for her creative writing business. Launched recently, Wildfire is a free, innovative business support programme for young people and it is currently running competitions to find the sharpest young business minds. Rosie said “finding a job is hard for young people at the moment so I thought why not start my own business doing something I am good at and really enjoy doing? Winning an iPad is brilliant because it means I can take my business everywhere I go and it will save lots of paper too.”
Rosie is pictured receiving her prize, along with some business tips, from Deirdre Bounds, entrepreneur, TV personality and YES Director. Read an interview with Rosie at the Wildfire Hub.

Primary school children from across North Lincolnshire celebrated their enterprise successes with their business partners who had loaned them £5 each as part of the roll out of Rotherham Ready
Primary school pupils from Hull and East Riding came to The Guildhall today to present what they had learned and earned from participating in Hull Ready’s Make £5 blossom challenge. Local businesses had loaned £5 per student and their support to come up with a business idea which would make a profit. All pupils were able to talk about the Big 13 enterprise skills they had used and what they had learned – teamwork, financial literacy and risk management featured strongly. Funded by Yorkshire Forward and managed by YES youth enterprise services Hull Ready is part of the roll out of Rotherham Ready.
